Chanel Day 2025 Celebrates Faith, Unity, and Founding Legacy

Staff, students, and community members came together at Chanel Catholic College of Secondary Education to celebrate Chanel Day—a vibrant celebration filled with joy, faith, and gratitude as they honoured their patron saint and commemorating the college’s founding
The day began with a solemn morning Mass in the college chapel, led by the Liturgy Committee, bringing together the college community in reflection and prayer. The Mass honoured Saint Peter Chanel, the first martyr of Oceania, whose mission work in the Pacific in the 1800s continues to inspire young Catholic educators and leaders.

Saint Peter Chanel, a Marist missionary priest from France, devoted his life to spreading the Gospel in Futuna, where he was martyred in 1841. Declared a saint in 1954, his legacy of courage, humility, and deep faith remains central to the values of the college, which was founded in Kokopo to prepare future secondary school teachers with a strong academic and spiritual foundation.

After breakfast, the college transformed into a lively celebration space. Festivities began at 10:00 am with opening remarks, followed by student performances of the Chanel Day Song, choreographed items, and pastoral group presentations. Laughter and cheering echoed as students and staff joined together for games and creative acts.

The day concluded with closing remarks and announcements before a shared late lunch for all, symbolising the unity and hospitality that Chanel Day promotes.

“Chanel Day is not just about remembering our history—it’s about celebrating who we are and where we are going,” said the Principal Dr Alfred Tivinarlik. “It brings us together as one family.”

This annual event remains a highlight of the college calendar, uniting the Chanel community in spirit, song, and service.
