An awareness session on Consumer Protection was recently conducted at our school by the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) of Papua New Guinea as part of preparations to celebrate 50 years of Papua New Guinea’s Independence. The session provided a valuable opportunity for students and staff to learn about their rights and responsibilities as consumers and how to live responsibly as good stewards in society.
During the session, a presentation was delivered in which the roles and responsibilities of the ICCC were explained. Guidance was given on what consumers can do to protect their rights, make informed choices, and uphold fair business practices. Different types of Acts that guide and empower the work of the Commission were also discussed, giving the school community a clearer understanding of consumer protection laws.
To reinforce the learning, pamphlets were distributed to students and staff, ensuring the information could be revisited and shared beyond the session. An opportunity for questions was provided, and the active participation of students and staff was recognized through the awarding of prizes.
The session was concluded with a word of appreciation from the School Principal, Dr. Alfred Tivinarlik, who acknowledged the time and effort of the ICCC team in delivering such vital information to the school community.
The awareness session was greatly appreciated and served as a reminder of the importance of responsible living, informed decision-making, and good citizenship, values that are particularly meaningful as Papua New Guinea marks its 50th year of Independence.
